Day 1 of the Detox...For Real This Time

I made it through the first day of detox, I made it through the first day of detox! I feel like shouting it from the rooftops, because I wasn't for sure I could do it.
I started the day off with fresh squeezed citrus juice.  I juiced a grapefruit, a large navel orange, a lime, and a lemon.  It was a lot of juice, but no problem because I was splitting in half with the hubs!  It was yummy.
Then I went to the gym and did 45 minutes on the elliptical machine. Killer when you haven't really eaten. I came home and had more juice.  This time I juiced three apples, 2.5 carrots, a bunch of spinach and then I added TRI-Cleanse, Perfect Food RAW Organic Green Super Food Powder, and Green Tea.  Again, this made a lot of juice but I sent half of it to work with the hubster.
After the apple/carrot/spinach juice I needed something with a different taste, so I went for the chicken broth.  I had 8 ounces of broth and it was actually pretty decent.
For dinner I had a new to me water.  Honeydew-Hibiscus Unsweetened Essence Water.  This stuff is the bomb.  Not sweet at all and just a hint of the flavor.  Soooo yummy.  I can't wait to try more.  It was at this point that the hubs said he couldn't take it anymore and joined the kids for dinner.  : )
After the water I had some more chicken broth, about 1.5 cups.  At this point I was getting pretty hungry, so it didn't really hit the spot.  I stuck it out and just had the broth.
Okay, so here are my thoughts about the day.  It was easier than I expected.  I didn't really get hungry until dinner.  Now I'm hungry and have a headache.  Hoping it goes away while I sleep tonight.  I also drank a ton of water.  About 60 ounces.  Considering all the other liquid I've had today I'd say I'm well hydrated.  I did 30 minutes of yoga as well tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to pretty much stick to the same plan except vary what I juice.  I'm looking forward to day 3 when I can have some brown rice.

Also, just a couple of things about this detox that I want to put out there.  I'm not a professional.  I have no nutritional/health certifications or anything like that.  This is just me trying out a detox.  The idea came from a post Tosca Reno did about her detox.  My detox is similar, but it's not an exact copy of Tosca's.  To start with she only juiced vegetables the first two days.  There's no way I could do that.  I just know I wouldn't stick to it if I only veggie juice and broth.  Not gonna happen.  So, I'm making it work for me and adding in fruit juice as well.  All of my juice is juiced at home by me, so there's no store bought low nutrition juice.  I also did not make my own bone broth like Tosca did.  I just didn't have the time or a bunch of bones (that kind of grosses me out anyway).
I also know that this is not a permanent weight loss solution.  Here are my expectations:  I will lose weight, I'm thinking 5-10 pounds.  I weighed this morning and I was at 190 (I've been fluctuating between 188 and 190 since vacation) I'm thinking I'll get below 185.  I'm also fully aware that almost all of what I lose will come back when I start eating normally again.  I'm doing this detox because I feel like I need a fresh start when it comes to food.  I've been eating so much junk recently (on our vacation and since we got back).  I think the detox is going to get me back on track and help me get rid of some of those awful cravings for crap food.
So, that's my info for day 1 of the detox.  Here's to 6 more days of it.

  2. I'm glad you're enjoying my blog. I just drank juice/broth when I was hungry. I didn't really time it and it worked well for me. I'm probably going to do another detox in a few weeks (when I'm completely healed from having my wisdom teeth out) and I'm going to look at the one from the Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead Documentary. If you haven't seen it you should check it out. It's highly motivating.
